Saturday night we went to the park in Palermo to see Mercedes Sosa perform. It was a free concert on a nice summer night, so there was a huge crowd. It wasn’t the Stones in Rio but it was still a lot of people. I’ve written before about Mercedes Sosa where I talked about seeing her in Miami Beach a few years back. At that show I had a seat on about the 10th row; last night, it seemed like we were on about the 500th row. But we really enjoyed it anyway.
She had a number of guests who came onstage to sing with her, including Diego Torres. But the big surprise of the night was Charly GarcĂa who joined Mercedes Sosa towards the end of the concert for three songs.

I was born and raised in buenos Aires, I moved to Vancouver, Canada 6 years ago and still miss those free concerts in summer nights… There is nothing more exciting that those concerts where knowing the lyrics and singing together with the singer is a MUST. I really miss that interaction… that feeling of participation and that warm feeling that being so close provides. It doesn’t matter if you are in the first row or far back, as you said, in the 500th row. Mercedes Sosa came to Vancouver 3 years ago and her concert was amazing… we are not too many Argentines here, and I can say that all of us were there… she performed for almost 2 hours and made us feel ‘like at home’. Charlie used to be a great musician, he can shake your more inner feelings when performing with his keyboard… he has been through tough times, but regardless, his music is timeless.
