I’ve been waiting for the appearance of South America in Google Maps. The fun is no longer just limited to North America!
As you can see in this satellite photo, Buenos Aires is really a rather small town.
My own little corner of Buenos Aires is here on Avenida Córdoba, just left of center on this photo. That’s the medical facility of the Universidad de Buenos Aires situated around Plaza Houssay on the upper right-side.

GG – thanks for your comment. But as you walk the streets, you discover that distances are not really that far apart….
Actually, I’m not sure if that 13 million figure is for Capital Federal or Gran Buenos Aires (the metro area) or for Buenos Aires province. For Capital itself, I usually hear a figure of 3 million.

A small town?
ha!
Even for yanquees it’s not small at all (i’ve heard that from their own mouths).
And again, no, it’s in no way a small town. It’s a huge developed city (with many faults, of course, this is Argentina we’re speaking…)

Come on, people….a satellite image showing the massive size of Buenos Aires and the words “small town”….. Doesn’t anyone get irony these days? 🙂

Bu the city’s metro area is attached to Capital Federal, actually the capital federal is not a separate urban entity but just a political subdivision. According to you so New York is not a 21 millions city but an 8 million one, Paris, 2 millions, Los Angeles 3 millions, Miami 400,000; or Santiago de Chile just 1 million, not to mention the tiny Mexico city with just 8 million people (like NYC not that huge if you count only the Political municipality and consider the metropolitan area just a bunch of surrounding cities). And what about the huge Los Angeles, if we consider that Los Angeles itself is smaller than lots of cities not only around the world but also in the USA; just because its political subdivisions confined the name just in a small geographic territory, leaving out of Los Angeles OTHER CITIES, according to your implied statement, like Hollywood, Beverly Hill, Santa Monica, Glendale, Pasadena or Anaheim.
Actually in Buenos Aires you can find distances of 70 kms including de metro area, we could consider Capital something like Miami municipality in Dade County, Santiago Comuna in the Santiago de Chile or the tiny Los Angeles city or municipality in Los Angeles.
Finally places like Vicente Lopez, Avellaneda, Lanus, Moreno, Quilmes, San Isidro or Merlo are part of Buenos Aires as much as Belgrano, San Nicolas, Montserrat, Flores, Saavedra, Boedo or Caballito.

And almost forgot, did I mention that according to your point of view Miami Beach is not in Miami just because it is not part of the Miami municipality?
C’mon!! you cannot tell me now that Miami Beach, the most famous neighborhood or suburb of Miami, is not part of Miami, or the same goes for Coral Gables, Coconut Grove or Hialeah.

I traveled to many cities and I have lived in Montreal, Canada; Vancouver, BC; Manhatan, NY; Miami, Florida; L.A, California; Rome, Italy; and visiting for a not to short period of time other places in the world and what I can say is that Buenos Aires it is not just a big city, but it has so many places to explore that you never get tired to discover it.
