In a comment to my last posting Robert mentioned the high rise towers being developed in Puerto Madero. For those of you who haven’t been down to Puerto Madero recently here is a photo of the construction that is taking place.
As far as I know, these towers are apartments and not office buildings. That’s a lot of expensive apartments. And I understand that more are in the planning stages. Honestly, I can’t figure out who is going to live in all those places.

No se quiénes viviran pero podría enumerar una gran cantidad de personas que seguramente no lo harán.

Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble.

There are some people in Argentina with money. Anyway, how many apartments are we talking about? A few thousand? Out of 36 million inhabitants. PM is one of the most prestigious addresses in Argentina. A lot of Argentines have brought money back from banks in the US and elsewhere. There’s also foreign investment – despite talks of expropriation!

Those apts. in PM are outrageously expensive and not worth it. You can get a lot more for your buck in other nice parts of the city. Yes, it is a prestigious address, but the buildings I’ve seen have no charm, no character. Most of the upper middle class porteños I’ve spoken to cannot get what these apts. are about, and the monthly dues are sky high. I have a friend who lives in one and is unhappy with the small rooms and having the washing machine in the bathroom. There are some bigger ones, but I haven’t seen one that I liked, except for the views.

Mike, Its not a bubble, toil and trouble, for your information, all the buildings are going up with cash!!! no financing being used and they command prices of U$250 per sq ft (In NYC average U$1200/sqft up to U$6000/sqft), therefore the prices are still cheaper than what they should be. As for washing machines in bdrm? Your friend should have looked at the plans before buying, there are many well built high rises there. And I’ve seen 1bedroom apts that are 80m2, not so tiny, 145m2 for a 2bdrm.
Depends on building I guess. Onwards and upwards
And yes, there are other parts of BsAs that has a wonderful old world charm.. BsAs has the best of both Old Elegance and New style.
