This belonged to a recently emptied space on Montes de Oca, though I do rather like the curve of the balcony and the awning over the upper door. Both reminds me of Miami-style art deco.
It turns out that the city’s GIS site is a treasure chest of photos for buildings that are no longer with us.
The state of that current lot:

Stayed tuned for yet another before/after from the very next block of Montes de Oca.

I lived for 2 years in a small 30’s building like this in Caballito, only it was in excellent repair. And it was along a street of other low-rise buildings from the same period, so there was a uniformity of design in the neighborhood.
Like you, I was charmed by the art deco, plus it was very pleasant to live in.
If the above building hadn’t fallen to ruin, and been the “bologna” of the sandwich between high-rises, it probably still would have been pleasant to live in.

Cherie – Thanks for the inside perspective on living in one of these types of buildings. You’re probably right in that if it had been among other low-rise buildings, then it might have survived a while longer.
